Belmont Park: Broadway’s Alibi could run in Acorn

Thus far, Broadway’s Alibi has come out of her runner-up finish to Believe You Can in the Kentucky Oaks in good shape and is under “strong consideration” for the Grade 1 Acorn on May 28, trainer Todd Pletcher said.

Believe You Can, is being pointed to the Grade 1 Mother Goose on June 23.

Broadway’s Alibi and Believe You Can went at it from the start in the Oaks, with Believe You Can, under Rosie Napravnik, getting the better of Broadway’s Alibi in deep stretch.

Pletcher made a late decision to run Broadway’s Alibi in the Oaks, noting that all of her previous races had been around one turn.

“At this point, she’s come out of it very well,” Pletcher said. “She’s training her normal, enthusiastic self, she’s eating very well. We’ll play it by ear, she’s a tough filly that likes her job, so I’d say right now the Acorn is under strong consideration.”

Meanwhile, Pletcher said he plans to run both Disposablepleasure and In Lingerie in next Friday’s $300,000 Black-Eyed Susan Stakes at Pimlico.

On Friday, Disposablepleasure worked five furlongs in company with Travers winner Stay Thirsty. Daily Racing Form timed the pair in 1:00.47, with a final quarter in 24.38 seconds over the Belmont training track.

Disposablepleasure, third in the Fair Grounds Oaks, was recently scratched from a turf race at Churchill.

Pletcher said Stay Thirsty, who hasn’t started since an 11th-place finish in the Breeders’ Cup Classic, is getting close to a return.

Overdriven sidelined with fracture

Pletcher said that Overdriven, away from the races since winning the Grade 2 Sanford at Saratoga last year, is sidelined again with a stress fracture in his right hind leg.

Overdriven had been working regularly at the Palm Meadows training center and did his last work in company with Gemologist on April 20.
Pletcher said Overdriven is at Jim Crupi’s farm in Ocala, Fla., and he is hopeful to get him back in time for a fall campaign.
