Belmont, Meadowlands cancel

The Meadowlands Racetrack and Belmont Park canceled their Wednesday cards because of heavy rainfall in the New York metropolitan area.

Belmont is dark Thursday and racing is scheduled to resume there Friday. The Meadowlands is scheduled to race Thursday night.

The Wednesday card was the third straight at The Meadowlands to be affected by the weather. The track ran only one race Saturday and three on Tuesday afternoon. There will be no turf racing on Thursday or Friday nights there. As a result, the Grade 3, $150,000 Cliff Hanger Stakes at 1 1/16 miles on the turf, slated for Friday, has been rescheduled for Oct. 22.
