Belmont features $39K pick six carryover for Wednesday card

ELMONT, N.Y. - Challenging, full fields await horseplayers chasing the pick six carryover of $39,713 Wednesday at Belmont Park after the wager went unhit Sunday.

The carryover begins in race 4 with an eight-horse field but the remainder of the sequence has three 12-horse fields and two 11-horse fields. With a favorable forecast, fast and firm conditions should be in play Wednesday.

Here’s a look at the sequence:

Race 4: A first-level allowance/optional $55,000 claiming marathon scheduled for 1 5/16 miles on turf kicks off the proceedings. Harrow beat Mutaawid a nose going 1 3/8 miles at Aqueduct in June. Harrow, an 8-year-old gelding, has made just one start since a fifth-place finish in an allowance at Kentucky Downs. Has the tactical speed to work out a good trip.

Mutaawid ran very well last time after tossing his head at the break and spotting the field many lengths. Goes first off the claim for Amelia Green. Iron Sight, trained by Chad Brown, comes off a second going 11 furlongs at Saratoga.

Race 5: The connections who shelled out $90,000 at auction for Hotshotmcgilicudy were hoping not to start him in a $30,000 maiden claimer. But here they are. This son of Olympiad is a half-brother to six winners, two who won first time out and he may not have to be much in this seemingly weak field of 12.

Audible Johnny, dropping in for a tag first time, may try to play catch-me-if-you-can under Michah Husbands though Medieval has some speed.

Papa Vegas, by Honest Mischief, has a steady work tab for connections that popped at a price with third-time starter Hunter Creek ($59.50) on Sunday.

Race 6: Six of the 11 entered in this starter/optional $45,000 claimer going 1 1/16 miles on turf come out of the same race won in front-running style by Urgency on closing day at Saratoga.

Hard Circle was second in that race after finishing a troubled third in a similar spot on Aug. 9, also at Saratoga. Those two efforts were for Mike Maker, who claimed the horse back for $45,000 after losing him for $30,000 earlier in the year.

Outsource finished in front of Hard Circle on Aug. 9 then had a wide trip throughout when seventh in that same Sept. 7 race.

Edgerton is a new face to this group. Had a wide trip when third but was disqualified to seventh when veering in a step in starter at Colonial on Aug. 28.

Race 7: Hard to have much faith in anyone in this starter allowance going one mile on dirt, for 3-year-olds and up who have started for a claiming price of $50,000 or less. How Much Is Enough won a $35,000 claimer by 5 1/2 lengths on Aug. 6 at Saratoga, somebody claimed him, but the claim was voided for an administrative reason, not by the veterinarian. Still, this is his first start in two months.

How Much Is Enough is trained by Linda Rice, who also sends out Sociably Johnny, who most recently finished last in the Albany Stakes. This company should be more to his liking.

Come Full Circle has been competitive in starter allowance company but is still 1 for 15. Maximum Heat won an off-the-turf maiden claimer by 7 3/4 lengths, beating just three horses.

Race 8: Not thrilled with post 12 for Tuthilltown, but there could be a pace meltdown in this starter allowance for New York-bred females going 6 1/2 furlongs on turf and this 3-year-old filly could take advantage for trainer Mike Miceli, who has sent out nothing but live runners at this meet.

Aperitif ships in from the Mid-Atlantic after winning an open maiden raca at Colonial with the addition of blinkers. Garden of Grace gets blinkers on second off the Rick Dutrow claim.

Race 9: Ori has post 12 in the nightcap, a starter allowance/optional $45,000 claimer scheduled for one mile on turf. Ori just won a similar race as this and was claimed by Mark Casse, who is 3 for 9 first off the claim over the last 22 months.

Several she beat last out are back in this field, including runner-up Griselda, who goes first off the claim for Linda Rice.

Cravings tries turf for the first time coming off a win on dirt for optional $75,000 claiming for trainer Steve Schauer.
