Belmont: Brilliant Speed will go in Manhattan

Barbara D. Livingston Brilliant Speed was beaten by a loose-on-the-lead Little Mike in the Woodford Reserve.

ELMONT, N.Y. - Brilliant Speed, third in the Grade 1 Woodford Reserve on Kentucky Derby Day, will make his next start in the Grade 1 Manhattan on Belmont Stakes Day, according to trainer Tom Albertrani.

Brilliant Speed was beaten three lengths by Little Mike, who surprisingly got loose on the lead in the Woodford Reserve.

“He ran very, very well,” Albertrani said. “He got bottled up at the three-eighths pole, and Johnny [Velazquez] thought it cost him second place. I think the mile and a half of the Manhattan should be to his liking.”
