Beholder has light exercise Friday morning

DEL MAR, Calif. – Beholder, the winner of the $1 million Pacific Classic against males Aug. 22, was on the track before dawn Friday at Del Mar for light exercise.
Trainer Richard Mandella said Beholder was ponied at 4:45 a.m., her first day of racetrack activity since the Pacific Classic. Beholder is scheduled to resume galloping Sunday and make her next start in the $300,000 Zenyatta Stakes against fillies and mares Sept. 26 at Santa Anita.
Owned by B. Wayne Hughes, Beholder earned a fees-paid berth to the Breeders’ Cup Classic at Keeneland on Oct. 31 with her win in the Pacific Classic, her first start against males. Beholder, 5, has won championships as the outstanding 2-year-old filly of 2012 and the outstanding 3-year-old filly of 2013. Her 2014 campaign was cut short by injury and illness.
This week, Hughes said Beholder could race as a 6-year-old in 2016.
