Saratoga

Beer: Saratoga pick four play for Saturday, Aug. 10, 2019

Mike Beer|Aug 10, 2019

Race 8: Grade 2 Saratoga Special

Green Light Go (3) showed speed in his dominant debut win, though that pace wasn't particularly fast – and won under strong handling with a solid 84 Beyer. The horse that finished second returned to win up here with an 83, flattering that performance. Green Light Go has trained strongly since that race and is the horse to beat.

The other horse for me is Noose (1). He has to get faster but he was very professional in blowing out the field once finding room in the stretch first time out.

Zyramid (2) looked good winning up here early in the meet with a 75 Beyer and will be a backup.

A: 1,3

Race 9: Grade 1 Fourstardave

This is a wide-open race over one mile on the inner and trips may make the difference. March to the Arch (1) has improved this year and became a graded stakes winner two back when managing to get clear in time to win the Wise Dan. He came back with a similar effort last time when racing on through traffic in the stretch of the Forbidden Apple. I made him my top pick, mostly because he is going to be the right kind of price and is well drawn inside.

Uni (3) is a mare facing the boys but that doesn't matter to me. She is very talented, is on a five-race winning streak over this distance, and can win this race.

Chad Brown trains Uni and he also trains Made You Look (9), who returned from a layoff in the Forbidden Apple and finished a good fourth while flattening out late in a race he appeared to really need.

A: 1, 3, 9

Race 10: N1X allowance

Alisio (3) flashed good speed as a 2-year-old while improving from start to start, and she dominated a field with a 76 Beyer when last seen.

Diamond Crazy (5) is interesting second off the layoff after taking a big step forward in her 3-year-old debut. She will be a price and I want to use her prominently.

La Chancla (4) improved last time and earned a competitive figure, but I didn't love that race overall. I'll use her defensively, along with Graceful Princess (2), who was a debut winner up here last summer and may appreciate the turn back in distance.

A: 3, 5

B: 2, 4

Race 11: Statebred md $40,000

If I can make it through the first three legs, I'll be happy to be alive to Blue Parrot (2), Magnesite (3), Alphalfa (5) and Valmont (9).

A: 2, 3, 5, 9
