Becky's Express lands in softer spot

Becky's Express was scratched out of last weekend's Grade 3 Texas Mile in favor of running in a Texas-bred allowance Saturday at Lone Star Park. He will be one of the top choices in a one-mile turf race that also drew stakes winner Ablaze With Spirit.

"The Texas Mile was pretty tough," said Michelle Lovell, who trains Becky's Express. "We wanted to give him a shot against his Texas-bred friends, and I think he looks okay in there."

Becky's Express will be making a rare turf start, but comes into the race off a win in the $50,000 Distance Cup at Manor Downs.

"I think he'll do fine," Lovell said of the surface switch. "And it looks like there could be rain, so we should be good either way."
