Beckner has more surgery

John McDulin|Sep 08, 2009

Jockey Dale Beckner, injured in a spill last month at Presque Isle Downs, had a second operation Tuesday, this one to repair a broken eye socket.

Beckner had a 12-hour operation last Wednesday to place titanium plates in his head and to reconstruct his nose and other eye socket. He is doing well and expects to be released next week, according to his fellow rider and girlfriend, Chamissa Goodwin. Beckner was sitting up and talking yesterday according to Goodwin.

"He is making progress," said Goodwin.

Beckner was injured when his mount, Private Exchange, broke down on the lead Aug. 28 in the first race and Beckner's head was stepped on and kicked by a trailing horse.
