Beckett’s Luckyday handles wet track to win Will Rogers Stakes

Beckett’s Luckyday became a stakes winner Tuesday, when he darted to a three-quarters of a length win over Kaleo in the $55,000 Will Rogers Stakes at a wet Will Rogers Downs. It was another 4 3/4 lengths back in third to Inca Empire.
The Will Rogers Stakes was a mile race restricted to 3-year-olds bred in Oklahoma. It was held on the penultimate card of the meet. Will Rogers closes Wednesday with a stakes double for Oklahoma-breds.
Beckett’s Luckyday ($19.40) was always prominent, tracking Kaleo through fractions of 24.18 seconds for the opening quarter and 48.78 for the half-mile. The eventual winner took the lead through six furlongs in 1:13.15 and went on to cover the distance on a sloppy, sealed track in 1:38.07.
