Beauty of the Sea ($28.20) gains third straight win with Blue Sparkler
?q=100)
Beauty of the Sea made her fifth start and improved for the fourth time in a row to run her winning streak to three and capture her first stakes race in the $104,000 Blue Sparkler on Saturday at Monmouth Park.
A distant fifth in her lone start at age 2, Beauty of the Sea finished second in a restricted Gulfstream maiden race in April, cleared the maiden ranks at the same level in May, and beat Florida-bred first-level allowance horses June 3 over the Gulfstream Tapeta track. The Blue Sparkler marked a serious step up in class, and Beauty of the Sea made that step, if only barely.
Getting a good stalking trip under Jairo Rendo, Beauty of the Sea won a photo finish over rail-rallying My Sweet Affair by a head. Love Appeals, the narrow 5-2 favorite over My Sweet Affair, loomed at the furlong grounds but settled for third, a neck behind My Sweet Affair. Trained by Joe Orseno for Ironhorse Racing Stable, Beauty of the Sea ran 5 1/2 furlongs over a firm turf course in 1:02.68 and paid $28.20.
Bosserati shot to the front and went a quick opening quarter-mile in 21.51, a pace too fast for her and the pressing horse, Lady Irvine. Both of those faded in upper stretch and Beauty of the Sea took over and held clear the runs of two shorter-priced rivals.
Bred in Florida by Shade Tree Thoroughbreds, Beauty of the Sea is by Bucchero – campaigned by Ironhorse – and out of the mare Belong to Sea, by Poseidon’s Warrior.
