Beau's Town to have surgery

Marty McGee|Oct 04, 2003

LEXINGTON, Ky. - Beau's Town, eighth and last as the heavy favorite in the Phoenix Breeders' Cup at Keeneland on Friday, is scheduled to undergo surgery for a small ankle chip later this week at the Rood and Riddle veterinary clinic in Lexington.

"He didn't have it before, so I'm assuming he did it in the race," said trainer Cole Norman. "He kind of stumbled at the start, and you could tell he was never comfortable at any point.

Dr. Larry Bramlage will operate on Beau's Town "by Friday," said Norman, who termed the injury "pretty minor, so we're hoping he'll only be out for only four months or so."

Beau's Town, a 5-year-old Arkansas-bred gelding, won the Bing Crosby at Del Mar in July. He has won 10 of 15 starts for Coast to Coast Racing and David Hulkewicz.
