Beau Recall catches Sensitive in New Orleans Ladies
RACE REPLAY IS NOT AVAILABLE
NEW ORLEANS – Beau Recall finished her Fair Grounds season Saturday the same way she started it - with a stakes win.
She took the Blushing K D back in December in her first start after moving to this circuit from California, missed a start in January owing to a potential sale, then finished second last month in the Al Stall Memorial. On the penultimate day of the meet, she captured the $74,250 New Orleans Ladies by running down her Brad Cox-trained stablemate, Sensitive, to get up and win by a half-length under Jose Ortiz.
“She appreciates the long stretch here,” Cox said.
Beau Recall ($4.20), the favorite, needed much of the stretch to catch Sensitive, who battled for the early lead with Lady Mamba then took command before her better-fancied stablemate ran her down.
Sensitive finished 2 3/4 lengths in front of third-place Vagabond Princess, who beat Lady Mamba by a neck for third. Vagabond Princess had to check three furlongs out after trying to get through inside of Lady Mamba.
Flower Party, a European import who briefly got loose in the post parade, finished fifth, then came, in order, Coachwhip, Hey Niki, and La Sola Ranger. Homefieldadvantage was scratched in favor of a Sunday race.
Beau Recall completed about 1 1/16 miles on firm turf in 1:42.11.
Now age 5, Beau Recall has won five times in 21 starts, and the $45,000 winner’s share pushed her career earnings past the $500,000 mark. Beau Recall, a daughter of Sir Prancealot, is owned by the partnership of Slam Dunk Racing and Medallion Racing.
Cox said Beau Recall likely will bypass the Keeneland meet and “look for something Derby week” at Churchill Downs, with the Distaff Mile being the likely option.
“At a mile, she should get some pace,” Cox said.
Cox said both the spacing of races, plus the long stretch at Churchill Downs, made that a better fit for Beau Recall than coming back quickly for something at Keeneland.
But she’s going to miss it here.
