ETOBICOKE, Ontario - Bear's Peak wore down favored Altius in the final strides to win his maiden in style Monday at Woodbine in the $127,000 Bull Page Stakes. Bear's Peak had an eventful trip in his only other start, and wound up a close fifth in that restricted maiden special. He faced Ontario-sired 2-year-olds again in the six-furlong Bull Page, and parlayed a wide-stalking trip into a neck victory under Patrick Husbands in 1:09.99. Altius, the pacesetter, finished second, and the winner's stablemate, Quintana, was a distant third in this 10-horse field. Bear's Peak ($8.80) collected $75,000 for Bear Stable and trainer Reade Baker. "He worked good the other day," said Baker. "He handled Quintana easily in the work, going in a minute. I expected a big race. It was a tough race, though. I didn't have him ready for his first race. He didn't break any good, and came real wide. It was really just an experience run."
