Be Vewy Vewy Quiet prevails in Frost King Stakes

ETOBICOKE, Ontario – Be Vewy Vewy Quiet ($5.60) made amends for back-to-back low-priced losses with a determined score in Saturday’s $125,800 Frost King Stakes at Woodbine.
On a dreary, rainy afternoon, Be Vewy Vewy Quiet rallied four wide from mid-pack to hit the front approaching the eighth pole in the seven-furlong sprint. While drifting out a little, he held off a late bid from another son of Silent Name, Silent Sting, to prevail by a head, in a time of 1:23.28 for the seven furlongs.
Royal Laser finished another length back while edging out Beer Pressure for third in the 10-horse field of Ontario-sired 2-year-olds.
Rafael Hernandez rode Be Vewy Vewy Quiet for the first time in the Frost King, after working him recently.
“We liked the (outside) post position,” Hernandez said. “The (race) set up perfect. He relaxed good, and made his run down the lane. He showed up today. He’s not a rank horse. He can go two turns.”
Trained by Robert Tiller, Be Vewy Vewy Quiet banked $75,000 in his second stakes victory for a partnership headed by longtime Woodbine owner Frank DiGiulio Jr.
“When he got beat in a couple of races, they were short races, with a few excuses,” Tiller said. “I always thought he’s a horse that will stretch out. He proved it today going seven-eighths.”
