HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. – Jody’s Pride, runner-up to Just F Y I in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies, will make her 3-year-old debut in the Grade 2, $200,000 Davona Dale Stakes going one mile at Gulfstream Park on March 2.
Trainer Jorge Abreu said he was between running Jody’s Pride here or in the $200,000 Busher at Aqueduct the same day. He said after consulting with the owners and with the possibility of getting Irad Ortiz Jr. to ride, the decision was made to stay here.
Jody’s Pride has breezed three times at Palm Meadows, but Abreu plans to ship her to Gulfstream over the weekend and start working her here on Sunday.
Jody’s Pride won her first two starts sprinting, both in races that were scheduled for turf but run on dirt, before stretching out to 1 1/16 miles in the Juvenile Fillies. She was beaten a neck.
“Great effort, especially going from six furlongs to two turns,” Abreu said. “It didn’t faze her at all, needed one more jump.”
On Wednesday, Abreu worked his multiple New York-bred stakes winner Venti Valentine five furlongs in 1:03.06 at Gulfstream. Abreu is pointing Venti Valentine to the $100,000 Broadway at Aqueduct on Feb. 17.
