BC future bet set for juvenile, turf races

Matt Hegarty|Sep 15, 2003

Halfbridled, the undefeated winner of the Aug. 30 Del Mar Debutante, has been installed the heavy 2-1 favorite for the first and only round of future wagering on the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies this weekend.

Halfbridled, who is trained by Richard Mandella, is favored over 22 other individual horses in the future bet, including Class Above, the 6-1 second choice; Ashado, the 12-1 third choie; and a 15-1 field entry that includes all other 2-year-old fillies.

on the Juvenile Fillies, along with three other Breeders' Cup races - the Juvenile, Mile, and Filly and Mare Turf - will be offered beginning this Friday at 1:00 p.m. Eastern. Betting will close on Sunday night at 9:00 p.m.

Breeders' Cup has already offered two rounds of future betting this year. In each of those rounds, future bets were offered for the Classic, Turf, Sprint, and Distaff. This will be the only weekend in which future betting will be offered on the other four races.

The Breeders' Cup this year will be held at Santa Anita Park in Southern California on Oct. 25, six weeks from this weekend.

The minimum bet for the future wager is $2, and no refunds will be accepted. Takeout is 15.43 percent.

In the Breeders' Cup Juvenile, the morning-line favorite, at 6-1, is Cuvee, winner of 3-of-4 lifetime starts, including the Aug. 13 Saratoga Special Stakes. Chapel Royal, the second-place finisher in the Aug. 30 Hopeful Stakes, is the 8-1 second choice on the morning line.

The winner of the Hopeful, Silver Wagon, is not being offered as an individual betting choice in the future wager because his trainer, Ralph Ziadie, has said that the horse will not start in the race. The field entry, 10-1 on the morning line, will include Silver Wagon, however.

In the Mile, Special Ring, the winner of the July 27 Eddie Read Handicap, was made the 8-1 morning-line favorite. A pair of European horses, Dubai Destination and Kalaman, were made the 10-1 co-second choices.

In the Filly and Mare Distaff, Voodoo Dancer, winner of the July 26 Diana Handicap, was made the 6-1 favorite. Nebraska Tornado, the winner of the Aug. 7 Prix du Moulin in France, and Heat Haze, the winner of the Aug. 16 Beverly D Stakes, were made the 8-1 co-second choices. Nebraska Tornado is also an individual entrant in the Mile pool.
