Baze will resume riding full time at Santa Anita Oct. 5

ARCADIA, Calif. – Tyler Baze will resume riding at Santa Anita on a full-time basis Oct. 5 after spending most of the last six months in the Midwest.
Baze rode primarily at Oaklawn Park, throughout Kentucky, and spent some weekdays at Del Mar during the summer. Baze has won five stakes since mid-April at Midwest tracks.
“I was able to get my name out there,” he said in an interview earlier this week.
“I wanted to ride for new trainers and the guys that don’t know me. I think it was a good run. I got to ride first call for Steve Asmussen at Ellis Park.
“I had a great time in Kentucky. Now, it’s time to go home and be with my kids and be a dad.”
Baze left when Santa Anita was closed for three weeks in March as the track underwent renovation and inspection following a series of equine fatalities.
“I’ve done a lot of traveling,” Baze said. “I rode at a lot of tracks I’d never ridden before. I have 15 jock licenses in different states.”
Baze, who ranked among the top 10 riders at the Santa Anita winter-spring meeting before his departure, is booked to ride Bolo in the Grade 2 City of Hope Mile on turf on Oct. 5.
