Baze to represent U.S. in Japan jockey competition

Russell Baze, winner of 12,631 races, will represent the United States in the World All-Star Jockeys competition on Aug. 29-30 at Sapporo Racecourse in Japan.

The 57-year-old Baze last rode in Japan when he finished fifth aboard Hawkster in the Japan Cup in 1989.

Joining Baze on the international roster will be Hayley Turner (United Kingdom), Thierry Jarnet (France), Craig Williams (Australia), and Joao Moreira (Hong Kong). Mirco Demuro, Keita Tosaki, Yuichi Fukunaga, Masayoshi Ebina, Yasunari Iwata, Yuichi Shibayama, Yutaka Take, Koji Fujita and Yuji Iwahashi will represent Japan. Take rode briefly at Bay Meadows in 2000.
