Baze and Hollendorfer tops again

SAN MATEO, Calif. - Perennial leaders Russell Baze and Jerry Hollendorfer won the jockey and trainer titles for the just-concluded Bay Meadows spring meeting.

Baze, who has won every major northern California meeting he has competed in since his first title during the 1980-81 season at Bay Meadows, won his 29th Bay Meadows crown with 97 victories, one more than the combined total of runners-up Ron Warren Jr. (52) and Roberto Gonzalez (44). Baze also had 80 second-place finishes and 37 thirds from his 329 mounts.

Hollendorfer won his 26th straight Bay Meadows trainer title with 55 winners. Armando Lage finished second with 34 wins. Hollendorfer's horses, who also ran second 52 times and third 32 times in 240 starts, earned $1,311,823.
