Bayern, Majestic Harbor, Imperative work for BC Classic

With all the final major prep races completed for the $5 million Breeders’ Cup Classic on Nov. 1 at Santa Anita, all that is left now is for the race’s prospects to complete their series of workouts for the Classic, and on Wednesday at Santa Anita, three Classic contenders worked for the first time since their most recent starts.
Bayern, who most recently captured the Pennsylvania Derby, as well as Majestic Harbor and Imperative – who both chased home Shared Belief last time out in the Awesome Again Stakes – all worked a half-mile at Santa Anita.
Bayern was timed in 47.20 seconds, Majestic Harbor in 48.80, and Imperative in 49.20. All will have far more serious workouts as the Classic, now a little more than three weeks away, draws closer.
Bayern worked in company under jockey Martin Garcia, who was aboard for the Pennsylvania Derby and will ride him in the Classic.
“He went really nice, looked great. He was just cruising,” said trainer Bob Baffert. “He looks fantastic.”
Majestic Harbor finished fourth in the Awesome Again. He scored the biggest win of his career in June in the Gold Cup at Santa Anita. On Wednesday, he worked alone with his regular jockey, Tyler Baze.
“It went just right,” said trainer Sean McCarthy. “It was his first work since the race, so we weren’t looking for anything spectacular, just a little leg-stretcher.”

Imperative, trained by George Papaprodroumou, had his first work since finishing fifth in the Awesome Again.
In addition to the local runners, British invader Toast of New York worked on an all-weather surface at Southwell in the United Kingdom on Wednesday, according to the Twitter account of trainer Jamie Osborne.
“Relieved to report that Toast worked with great enthusiasm this morning on the sand of Southwell,” Osborne wrote.
Toast of New York has not raced since finishing second to Shared Belief in the Pacific Classic at Del Mar.
The runners pointing to the Classic are scattered throughout the United States and, in the case of Toast of New York, Britain. In addition to the three horses who worked Wednesday, Santa Anita’s stable area currently houses Candy Boy, Footbridge, Moreno, and Tapiture.
Shared Belief is at Golden Gate Fields. California Chrome is at Los Alamitos. Cigar Street, Tonalist, and Zivo are in New York. And Big Cazanova is at San Luis Rey Downs in Southern California.
Per Breeders’ Cup rules, all runners for the Nov. 1 Classic card must be on the grounds at Santa Anita by 10 a.m. Oct. 29.
