Bayern breezes five furlongs Tuesday morning

Marty McGee|May 26, 2015

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – While he was at Churchill Downs on Tuesday morning to oversee the workout by Triple Crown hopeful American Pharoah, trainer Bob Baffert also sent out 2014 Breeders’ Cup Classic winner Bayern for a five-furlong breeze in 1:00.40 over a fast track.

Bayern was disappointing in his only start this year when finishing last of six in the Churchill Downs Stakes on the Kentucky Derby undercard May 2. Baffert said he still hasn’t decided whether to run the 4-year-old colt back in the Grade 1 Met Mile on the Belmont Stakes undercard June 6 or keep him at Churchill to wait for the Grade 1 Stephen Foster Handicap on June 13 on the Downs After Dark card.

“We’re going to see who goes in New York and who stays,” said Baffert.
