Bayerd eyes Remington 2-year-old series

Bayerd, an 11 1/2-length maiden winner at Saratoga in August, shipped to Remington last month with an eye on the track’s 2-year-old stakes program, said trainer Steve Asmussen. The horse won the $75,825 Kip Deville on the Oklahoma Derby undercard Sept. 28 and is now being pointed for the $100,000 Clever Trevor at Remington on Nov. 7. The final race in the series is the $250,000 Springboard Mile on Dec. 14.
“It’s a nice program,” Asmussen said.
Bayerd earned a 93 Beyer Speed Figure for his Kip Deville win, one start after putting up a 90 in the maiden race at Saratoga. In his only other start, Bayerd was third to eventual Grade 1 winner Competitive Edge in the maiden ranks at Saratoga.
