ARCADIA, Calif. – Battle of Midway, the winner of the 2017 Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile at Del Mar and five other stakes, was euthanized on Saturday after sustaining a hind leg injury during a workout at Santa Anita.
The incident was reported by Santa Anita publicity through Rick Arthur, California’s equine medical director.
Battle of Midway was 5. By Smart Strike, Battle of Midway won 8 of 16 starts and earned $1,589,049. He was in training for a start in the $12 million Dubai World Cup in the United Arab Emirates on March 30 when injured.
