Battle of Midway has options on both coasts

CYPRESS, Calif. – Battle of Midway, second in the Grade 2 Pat O’Brien Stakes at Del Mar on Aug. 25 in his first start of the year, is likely to race later this month in the Kelso Handicap at Belmont Park or the Awesome Again Stakes at Santa Anita.
The Grade 2 Kelso Handicap is at one mile on Sept. 22, and the Grade 1 Awesome Again Stakes is at 1 1/8 miles on Sept. 29.
Battle of Midway worked five furlongs in 58.80 seconds at Santa Anita on Saturday.
“He’s coming around very well,” trainer Jerry Hollendorfer said.
Battle of Midway was sent to stud last winter after winning the Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile at Del Mar in November. Battle of Midway was put back into training after he was found to be subfertile.
In the Pat O’Brien Stakes, Battle of Midway finished 7 1/4 lengths behind Catalina Cruiser, who is expected to make his next start in the BC Dirt Mile at Churchill Downs on Nov. 3. Trained by John Sadler, Catalina Cruiser worked a half-mile in 49.20 seconds at Santa Anita on Sunday.
