Batavia: Quincy Blue Chip trots to track record in NY Sire Stakes tilt

Quincy Blue Chip made a break at Vernon Downs in her last start, but she was definitely on her best behavior in Friday night's lone $118,800 New York Sire Stakes dash for 3-year-old filly trotters at Batavia Downs as she smashed the track record for the division thanks to a 1:55 4/5 performance.
Starting from post five and driven by Jim Morrill Jr., Quincy Blue Chip tucked into the pocket behind With Out A Doubt (Marcus Miller) around the first turn, but Morrill Jr. brought Quincy Blue Chip to the outside to take command passing the 28 1/5 opening quarter. From there, she got to the half in just 58 1/5, leaving her plenty of energy to deal with a first-over try from Sensibility (Scott Zeron) going to the 1:27 2/5 three-quarters.
Around the far turn Quincy Blue Chip opened up a gap on the field, and she kept clear to the wire, winning by two lengths. Winndevie (Jason Bartlett), who was saddled with post eight and made a brief break in stride when bothered by an off-stride Blue Ribbon Gal (Dan Daley) on the first turn, rallied to get second, with With Out A Doubt third.
The time of 1:55 4/5 lowered the previous track record for a 3-year-old filly trotter of 1:56 4/5 that belonged to both Celebrity Ruth and Seventh Heaven. They both took that mark in 2017.
A daughter of Chapter Seven, Quincy Blue Chip is owned by trainer Rich Banca in partnership with Barbara and James Boese. This was Quincy Blue Chip's 11th career victory, and she has now put away $525,387. She was the 1-2 favorite and returned $3.10 to win.
