Batavia: Primacy Station triumphs over stablemate Bastonata Bluechip in NYSS

Primacy Station (American Ideal-Preeminence) moved to the head of his class after winning the $110,200 New York Sire Stake for 2-year-old pacing colts and geldings at Batavia Downs on Wednesday (Aug. 12) night.

Primacy Station (Matt Kakaley) got away fifth as Beatle Blue Chip (Niko Karna) led the field to the 27 second quarter before Bastonata Blue Chip (Tyler Buter) took the lead from him as they passed the stands the first time. Bastonata Bluechip then got to the half in 56 1/5 as his stablemate Primacy Station was rolling up the outside in fast fashion.

Primacy Station went from fifth to first by the time he reached the five-eighths, then he crossed over and took command for good. Primacy Station had a 1 1/2 length lead at three-quarters that he extended to 3 1/2 at the head of the stretch with only Bastonata Bluechip having a remote chance of catching him. However, that didn't happen, as Primacy Station rolled home under steady Kakaley urging to win in 1:54 4/5. Bastonata Bluechip was second to give Alexander a sweep of the exacta and El Cucuy (Kevin Cummings) came in third at 42-1.

On the strength of his win, Primacy Station is now the richest ($134,415) 2-year-old pacing male in the NYSS so far this year and is tied with Marie's Jet for most points (137) in this division.

It was the fourth win in only six starts for the heavily-backed Primacy Station ($3.48), who is owned by Alexander Racing Stable, C M T Farms, Evm Racing and James Scarpia and trained by Travis Alexander. Spring Station Bloodstock bred Primacy Station.

There were also two $20,000 NYSS Excelsior Series races on the program.

The first was won by Hunt Me Down (Huntsville-Planet Ocean - 1:55 4/5, $6.28 - Leon Bailey/Chuck Conner Jr.), who is owned by James Femia, Jim Fielding and Kevin McKinlay and was bred by Winbak Farm.

The second was won by Takes Courage (American Courage-Norinoro Hanover - 1:55 4/5, $3.44 - Matt Kakaley/Travis Alexander), who is owned and was bred by Fiddler's Creek Stables.

Live racing will resume at Batavia Downs on Saturday (Aug 15) at 5 p.m. (EDT).
