Batavia: NY Sire Stakes races showcased on Wednesday

Two-year-old filly trotters headlined opening night of the 2022 meet at Batavia Downs on Wednesday, racing in a trio of $35,200 New York Sire Stakes events.
Last Page First lured Bob McClure down from Ontario to drive, and the trip proved to be a successful one as she won the first split in 2:00 1/5. Last Page First took command before the 29 3/5 opening quarter, stayed in front at the 1:00 half and 1:30 three-quarters, and came home in 30 1/5 to defeat All The Rage (Ake Svanstedt) by 3 3/4 lengths. Seven Bridges Road (Mark Whitcroft) finished third.
A daughter of Chapter Seven-Kelsey's Keepsake, Last Page First is trained by Luc Blais for owner Determination. Bred by Tara Hills Stud, David Heffering, and Steve Stewart, Last Page First was a $40,000 Lexington Selected Yearling Sale buy and was making her pari-mutuel debut after qualifying three times at Grand River Raceway and once at Woodbine Mohawk Park. Sent off at 6-1, she paid $14.40 to win.
My Belfast Angel (Tyler Buter) clicked off panels of 29 3/5 and 1:00 4/5 in the second division, but Mari (Drew Monti) went on the attack heading to the 1:31 three-quarters and took over the top spot beyond that marker. From there, Mari opened up on the others and went on to tally by 2 3/4 lengths in 2:00, besting Bourbon On Ice (John Stark Jr.) and Gigi Hanover (Svanstedt).
Mari is a Crazy Wow-Kasha filly trained by Amanda Shaw for owners Fortunate One LLC. and Jason Shaw. Mari, who was bred by Annette Roydon, broke her maiden in her third chance, pushed her earnings to $21,075, and returned $26.20 to win as a 12-1 offering.

In the last grouping Kayleigh S (Brian Sears) got the lead on the way to the 30 3/5 opening quarter when J Wow (Jim Marohn Jr.) went off-stride. After taking charge, Kayleigh S backed down the tempo to 1:02 at the half and 1:32 2/5 at three-quarters, then sprinted a 29 1/5 last quarter to win by 2 1/4 lengths in 2:01 3/5. Metro Matty (Monti) was the runner-up, followed by Woolco (Buter).
Marcus Melander trains Kayleigh S, a full sister (Chapter Seven-Pasithea Face S) to Joviality S, for owner Courant Inc. The AM Bloodstock-bred Kayleigh S has won both of her starts, has put away $56,250, and paid $2.90 to win as the 2-5 favorite.
