Barretts: Paddock sale at Del Mar set for July 20

The Barretts Paddock Sale of race ready horses in training will be held on July 20, after the first Sunday card of the Del Mar meet at the Southern California racetrack.

The sale will once again take advantage of Del Mar’s “Ship and Win” program, which offers a one-time $1,000 starter’s bonus and 33 1/3 percent purse bonus for horses whose previous start was made outside of California.

The sale is open to all horses located both inside and outside the state of California. Because of stabling limitations, entries will be screened prior to approval with preference given to those that are submitted first. Nominations close June 4, but entries will be taken until two weeks prior to the sale on the Barretts website.

Last year’s sale was led by Oscar Party, who sold to trainer James Cassidy, as agent for owner Deron Pearson, for $510,000. The Dixie Union filly went on to finish second in the Grade 2 Indiana Oaks later that year.
