Barretts has early six-figure sale

The Barretts May 2-year-old sale got under way Tuesday in California with an early six-figure horse, thanks to J. Paul Reddam. Reddam paid $110,000 for Hip No. 22, Golden Reservoir, a Formal Gold colt offered by consignor Becky Thomas's Sequel Bloodstock agency.

As of 4:30 p.m., that was the highest price of the session, but there were still several hours of selling left at the Fairplex sale pavilion in Pomona, Calif.

Golden Reservoir is from the family of stakes winners Duped, Total Rage, and Royal Vale, among others. The Kentucky-bred colt breezed an eighth-mile in 10.20 seconds at the auction's under-tack preview.

Thomas bought Golden Reservoir for $52,000 at the 2003 Keeneland September yearling sale. She entered him in Fasig-Tipton's Calder juvenile sale in February, but he failed to reach his reserve on a final bid of $55,000.
