Barretts adds fall paddock sale at Del Mar to calendar

Barretts Equine Sales Co. announced Tuesday that it will conduct its inaugural fall paddock sale of horses of racing age on Nov. 8 at Del Mar, to be held following the day’s racecard. The sale will fall on the first Saturday of Del Mar’s new fall meet, dubbed the Bing Crosby Season.

Barretts introduced its summer paddock sale at Del Mar in 2012, and has held two renewals since, the most recent on July 20. The inaugural fall paddock sale will continue the “race ready” format that constitutes the summer auctions and is designed to attract new owners and increase the horse inventory in California. At those sales, consignors have often placed horses to the sale that are in training and, in some cases, recently made starts at Del Mar.

The summer 2014 paddock sale at Del Mar posted a 53 percent rise in average compared with the 2013 edition, and was highlighted by the purchase of Grade 1 winner Heir Kitty for a sale-record $750,000.

Nominations for the sale close on Sept. 26, but entries will be accepted up to a week prior to the sale.
