The broodmare La Ville Rouge, dam of 2006 Kentucky Derby winner Barbaro, has produced a fourth full brother to that popular runner.Mill Ridge Farm in Lexington, Ky., where owners Gretchen and Roy Jackson board La Ville Rouge, announced Thursday afternoon that the mare produced her fifth Dynaformer colt, weighing 138 pounds, on May 18.“While only a day old, he appears to have plenty of leg and bone and [be] a quality foal,” said Mill Ridge’s managing partner, Headley Bell. “Any time you have a healthy foal you are thankful. Especially when it is a brother to Barbaro. The Jacksons are considering breeding the mare back to Dynaformer, for they have always sought a sister to Barbaro.”Barbaro’s other full siblings are the colts Nicanor, a stakes-placed 5-year-old; the winner Lentenor; and unraced 2-year-old Margano. La Ville Rouge also is the dam of the stakes-winning colt Holy Ground, by Saint Ballado. A 15-year-old Carson City mare, she has not produced a filly to date.Barbaro won the 2006 Kentucky Derby but suffered a catastrophic breakdown in the Preakness Stakes. After surgery to repair the injury, the 3-year-old colt appeared on the road to recovery but was euthanized on Jan. 29, 2007, because of complications from laminitis.
