Barbaro’s brother Lentenor sires his first winner

Mark Simon|Jul 12, 2016

Lentenor, a full brother to Kentucky Derby winner Barbaro, was represented by his first winner from his first crop on July 11. The son of Dynaformer out of La Ville Rouge, by Carson City, is the sire of 2-year-old filly Macy’s Attitude, who won a 4 1/2-furlong maiden race at Mountaineer to register her first victory in six starts.

Macy’s Attitude, out of the Gone West mare Pulsatilla, was bred in Kentucky by Calumet Farm and is owned and trained by Tommy Short, who purchased her for $1,000 at the 2015 Keeneland September yearling sale.

The filly was rated just off the early pace and took the lead in midstretch and drew off to win by five lengths as the 6-1 third choice in the field of six in the race worth $13,536. Macy’s Attitude has earned $14,888.

Lentenor was bred and raced Mr. and Mrs. Roy Jackson, who bred and raced Barbaro in the name of their Lael Stables. Barbaro broke down at the start of the Preakness when undefeated and ultimately lost a long but brave battle to recover from his severe injury.

Lentenor won four of 17 starts and earned $184,406 while racing from ages 2 to 5. Doing his best running on turf, he won four of 13 starts on that surface and captured the 2012 Kitten’s Joy Stakes on grass at Colonial Downs to record his only stakes victory. He also set a course record of 1:40.95 for 1 1/16 miles on turf at Tampa Bay Downs.

Lentenor was initially retired to Calumet Farm in Lexington, Ky., for a fee of $7,500 for the 2013 season, but he did not get many mares. He has just six foals from the crop of 2014.

For the 2014 breeding season, he went to stud in Indiana for a fee of $2,000 at the Indiana Stallion Station in Anderson. He has eight yearlings in his second crop, and in 2015 he was bred to 14 mares according to The Jockey Club records.

Macy’s Attitude is his only starter to date.
