RACE REPLAY IS NOT AVAILABLEDespite coming off a win in the $50,000 Red Dial Express, Bar No Q paid $116.80, $41.40 and $10.80 for his 1 1/4-length victory over Sir Bronx in the $100,000 Harvest Plate at Century Downs Monday. The $2 exacta paid $805.50.
Ridden by Quincy Welch, Bar No Q posted a final time of 1:23.00 in the seven-furlong dash for 3-year-olds and up.
Bar No Q broke alertly from the outside post in the 11-horse field and chased Hot Rodin, who posted a half-mile time of 45.50 seconds. He took over the lead on the stretch turn, repelled a bid by Trooper John, who finished third, and drew off in midstretch. Sir Bronx stalked the pace from along the rail, steadied approaching the quarter-pole, finished well after regrouping, but never looked like catching the winner.
Rigo Sarmiento aboard Sir Bronx lodged an objection against the winner for causing interference approaching the quarter pole. Following an inquiry, the stewards allowed the result to stand.
An Alberta-bred son of Gayego, Bar No Q is trained by Ron Grieves and races for Barrie and Collin Quamme and Bar None Ranches.
Earlier on the card, Smart Fix got up in the last few jumps to edge 40-1 longshot Blues Roar in the $50,000 Founders Distaff. She paid $6.90 for her three-quarter-length victory in the 1 1/16-mile race for fillies and mares. Port Protection rallied late to finish third at 45-1. The $1 trifecta paid $912.05
With Sarmiento aboard, Smart Fix was well back early while Blues Roar dueled with Under Par through a rapid half-mile in 45.09 seconds over a track that favored speed. Smart Fix made her presence known approaching the stretch turn and was all out to get past a very game Blues Roar. Raider looked like a serious threat when she overtook Blues Roar at the top of the stretch, but hung and finished fifth.
The final time was 1:45.80.
An Alberta-bred daughter of Kissin Kris, Smart Fix is trained by Jerri Robertson.
It was the third straight stakes win for the 6-year-old mare, who is owned by Robertson, Douglas Hardy, Leanne Chiodo, and Judy Frost.
