Banks, former jockey, dies at 69

Jockey Ron Banks, one of the top Quarter Horse riders in California in the 1950's and 1960's, died Tuesday, said his sister, Kay Webb. He was 69.

Banks, who still ranks in the top 20 for wins at Los Alamitos, rode Don Guerro to victory in the 1973 Golden State Derby at Bay Meadows . He also was a former manager of the Jockeys' Guild.
