Bank Heist’s first foal arrives in Pennsylvania

New York stallion Bank Heist was represented by his first foal, a dark bay or brown filly, on Feb. 28 at J Jeps Farm in Anville, Pa.

Bank Heist is a 6-year-old winning son of Maria’s Mon, and is a half-brother to champion sprinter Midnight Lute, out of the Dehere mare Candytuft. He stands at Kaz Hill Farm in Middletown, N.Y. for an advertised fee of $2,500, but the stud fee is being waived for black-type mares, mares with black-type under their first dam, and winners or producers of $50,000 or more.

Bank Heist, who is also a half-brother to multiple Grade 2 winner Captain Cherokee, was a $900,000 purchase out of the 2008 Keeneland September yearling sale, and he raced for trainer Todd Pletcher and owners George Bolton and Gulf Coast Farm. He won one of six starts for career earnings of $58,000.

The filly is the third foal out of the winning Deputy Commander mare Scholarship, who is a half-sister to stakes winners Smokin Forest and Scholastic Giant. Her first foal, a 3-year-old Bernardini colt, is training for his first start in south Florida.

"This Bank Heist filly is a terrific individual with great size and bone," said owner Peter Kazamias. "We sent most of our best mares to Bank Heist last year, and we're so impressed by this first foal that we plan to do the same again in 2013."
