Bandari upsets

Bandari scored a 12-1 upset over Sulamani in the Group 2 Princess of Wales's Stakes at Newmarket on Wednesday, handing Sulamani his third consecutive loss stretching back to last October's Breeders' Cup Turf.

Trained by Mark Johnston, Bandari caught Sulamani, the 6-5 favorite, near the line to record a half-length victory with Richard Hills in the saddle. His time on good-to-firm ground was a pedestrian 2:32.90.

A three-time group race winner at 3 over the Princess of Wales's distance of 1 1/2 miles, Bandari was winless in four starts last year. A 5-year-old son of Alhaarth who is owned by Hamdan Al Maktoum, Bandari had already won four times this year, most recently in the 1 1/4-mile Group 3 Brigadier Gerard Stakes.

Sulamani's loss may cause him to miss the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Diamond Stakes, in which he was second last year
