Bambarra Bold seeks fourth straight win on short rest
ETOBICOKE, Ontario – The late-maturing Bambarra Bold makes her first start in open allowance company at Woodbine on Friday, when she’ll look to extend her win streak to four races in the seven-furlong co-feature.
Bambarra Bold, a 3-year-old owned by breeder John Unger and Murray Shopiro, showed little in her first two outings in the spring. She turned the corner abruptly July 23, when she graduated by three lengths, and then doubled up in an Ontario-sired allowance sprint Aug. 22.
Bambarra Bold took her game to another level Sept. 17, when she romped in a seven-furlong Ontario-sired allowance. After racing in fifth early, she made a sweeping, wide bid to the lead in midstretch before drawing away under a hand ride from Eurico Rosa Da Silva. The 74 Beyer Speed Figure she earned then is the same as the Beyer par for this first-level allowance, which goes as race 8 on the nine-race card.
Bambarra Bold is a half-sister to last Sunday’s impressive Classy ’n Smart Stakes winner, Strut the Course. Both are trained by Barb Minshall, who said she is aiming the physically huge Bambarra Bold for the $150,000 Jammed Lovely Stakes, a seven-furlong event for Ontario-bred 3-year-old fillies here Nov. 8.
KEY CONTENDERS
Bambarra Bold (Last 3 Beyers: 74-65-57)
◗ Her races have been spaced out nicely until this point, when she’ll run just 16 days after a freakish performance. She could regress a little and still get the job done after breezing a quick half-mile in 48.40 seconds over the training track last Sunday.
Firewithdesire (Last 3 Beyers: 63-56-62)
◗ This half-sister to Canadian champion Pender Harbour is exiting a narrow victory in a six-furlong combo race for non-winners-of-three Ontario-sired allowance company and $40,000 claimers.
Dancing Ashley (Last 3 Beyers: 66-65-66)
◗ She has been idle since a commendable effort in an allowance route Aug. 17, during which she started slowly before ending up fourth after racing wide on both turns. All three of her victories came around one turn.
Teresa’s Pride (Last 3 Beyers: 66-67-63)
◗ She’s cutting back to a suitable distance off a flat fifth going 1 1/16 miles. Like the above-mentioned trio, she runs for a purse of $93,700 due to bonuses for being Ontario-bred and Ontario-sired.
Bureau de Change (Last Beyer: 63)
◗ The Kentucky-bred competes for the base purse of $58,600, which is nothing to sneeze at. She rallied professionally along the rail to notch her six-furlong debut by 4 3/4 lengths Aug. 30.
