Balandeen puts familiar team back in winner's circle with victory in Highland Ice

Trainer Chris Hartman and jockey David Cabrera completed a sweep of the first two stakes of the Will Rogers Downs meet on Tuesday, when Balandeen rallied for a length win over Topofthemountain in the $50,000 Highland Ice.
The victory came on the heels of the trainer and rider teaming to win the $50,000 Miranda Diane on Monday with Defy.
The Highland Ice was a six furlong race for 3-year-olds and up.
Balandeen ($8.60), who was moving back to the main track after racing on turf, was content to stalk fractions of 22.58 seconds for the opening quarter and 45.24 for the half-mile before going on to cover the distance on a fast track in 1:10.07.
Balandeen won his second stakes race in the Highland Ice, earning $29,952. He has now won 4 of 20 starts and banked $252,867. He is a son of Bernardini and races for Joe Davis.
