Baja Sur takes them all the way in Coca-Cola Stakes

Baja Sur broke sharply and never looked back in the $50,000 Coca-Cola Stakes at Emerald Downs on Sunday. He paid $2.60 for his 1 3/4-length victory over Runningwscissors in the 6 1/2-furlong sprint for 3-year-olds.
With Franklin Ceballos aboard, Baja Sur was under pressure from Perfect Dude through a quarter-mile in 22.58 seconds. He held a length advantage after a half-mile in 45.12, opened up a clear lead in the stretch, and never looked threatened while holding off Runningwscissors who came from a stalking position. Perfect Dude held on for third in the five-horse field.
The final time was a 1:15.60.
A Washington-bred son of Smiling Tiger, Baja Sur is undefeated in four starts for trainer Blaine Wright. He races for John and Janene Maryanski and Riverbend Farm.
