Bai and Bai sharp in comeback

POMONA, Calif. - Multiple stakes winner Bai and Bai ($3.60) returned from a six-month layoff with a solid comeback victory Sunday at Fairplex Park in the $63,050 E.B. Johnston Stakes for fillies and mares.

Aaron Gryder rode Bai and Bai for trainer Craig Dollase. The 5-year-old Bai and Bai has won 10 of 24 races and $667,618. Dona Amelia finished second,1 3/4 lengths behind the winner. Petite Cherie got third by a head over 8-5 second choice Chocolate Lava.

The final time for the 1 1/16-mile race was 1:44.22.

* Topper Shopper ($5.40) won the $63,050 Foothill Stakes for 3-year-old sprinters by 4 1/2 lengths on Sunday. Odds-on favorite Winsome Charm finished sixth and last.

Trained by Bill Spawr, Topper Shopper was ridden by Martin Pedroza, who won seven races on Sunday's card.
