Baffert thinking Travers for Arrogate

ARCADIA, Calif. – Arrogate, the winner of an allowance race at Santa Anita on June 24, is a candidate for the $1.25 million Travers Stakes for 3-year-olds at Saratoga on Aug. 27. Where the highly promising colt has a prep race remains to be seen.
On Friday, trainer Bob Baffert said he has not decided on Arrogate’s next start. Options include the $500,000 Indiana Derby at Indiana Grand on July 16 or the $1 million Haskell Invitational at Monmouth Park on July 31.
“I’ll let him dictate,” Baffert said. “I think the Travers will be ideal. He’ll love the mile and a quarter.”
Owned by Juddmonte Farms, Arrogate has won his last two starts, both at 1 1/16 miles – a maiden race by 4 1/2 lengths on June 5 and the optional claimer by 5 1/4 lengths. Arrogate earned a 102 Beyer Speed Figure for his June 24 performance.
By Unbridled’s Song, Arrogate was third in a maiden race at Los Alamitos in April. The colt was purchased for $560,000 at the 2014 Keeneland September yearling sale.
