Baffert sends pair of quick-working first-timers in maiden race
Two first-time starters trained by Bob Baffert are among seven 2-year-olds in a maiden special weight at six furlongs on Sunday at Del Mar. Also in the field are Affable, an expensive purchase at a sale earlier this year, and No Pedigree, whose only race came in a stakes.
Baffert runs the first-time starters Savile Row and Barraza. Typical of Baffert-trained runners, Savile Row and Barraza have had quick workouts.

Savile Row, by Quality Road, drew post 6 and will be ridden by Abel Cedillo.
“He’s pretty quick,” Baffert said.
Barraza drew the rail. The colt is by Into Mischief and out of Halo Dolly, a California-bred mare who won 10 stakes.
“There are some nice horses in there,” Baffert said of the overall field.
Affable, bought for $600,000 at the Fasig-Tipton Midlantic sale of 2-year-olds in training in June, will have his debut for trainer Mark Glatt. A colt by Flatter, Affable has had quick workouts in the last month, notably five furlongs in 59.60 seconds from the gate Oct. 19 at Santa Anita.
No Pedigree is the only runner in the field with stakes experience. Trained by Doug O’Neill, No Pedigree was fifth in the Speakeasy Stakes at about 5 1/2 furlongs on turf Sept. 26 at Santa Anita. He set the pace before fading to finish 1 1/4 lengths behind winner Amanzi Yimpilo.
