Baffert sending Arrogate to San Pasqual

Arrogate will start in Sunday’s $200,000 San Pasqual Stakes at Santa Anita after impressing trainer Bob Baffert in a workout at Santa Anita on Tuesday.
Arrogate worked six furlongs in 1:12.20.
“He went really well,” Baffert said. “He was just cruising. He was just in a gallop. As long as he looks good, it looks like Sunday is a spot for him.”
The Grade 2 San Pasqual Stakes is run at 1 1/16 miles and will be Arrogate’s first start since he won in the Breeders’ Cup Classic at Santa Anita on Nov. 5. A 3-year-old, Arrogate finished a half-length in front of California Chrome, the nation’s leading older horse.
Owned by Juddmonte Farms, Arrogate has won 5 of 6 starts and earned $4,084,600. Arrogate won the Grade 1 Travers Stakes at Saratoga in August in his stakes debut.
The San Pasqual Stakes is a prep for the $12 million Pegasus World Cup at Gulfstream Park on Jan. 28.
Baffert worked two recent 2-year-old maiden race winners on Tuesday – American Anthem and Beach Bum.
American Anthem, who won his debut at Del Mar on Dec. 3, worked six furlongs in 1:13.40. Beach Bum, a maiden race winner at Santa Anita on Nov. 6, worked a half-mile in 49.40. Beach Bum was out of training earlier this month because of illness, Baffert said.
Vale Dori, the winner of the Grade 2 Bayakoa Stakes for fillies and mares at Del Mar on Dec. 3 for Baffert, worked six furlongs in 1:12.20.
