Baffert juveniles impress in works
ARCADIA, Calif. - A large contingent of Bob Baffert-trained 2-year-olds are stabled at Los Alamitos where they are gearing up for career debuts, including an unnamed filly with a flashy pedigree who worked a bullet three furlongs this week in 35.20. Sired by Into Mischief and produced by Bubbler, the filly is a sibling to Arrogate.
Among the more promising Baffert 2-year-olds at Los Alamitos is Nadal, who has shown signs of superior talent according to clockers. Sired by Blame and produced by Ascending Angel, Nadal was purchased for $700,000 at a 2-year-old sale. She worked three furlongs in 36.60 on May 14 and is expected to make her debut this summer.
Sunday at Santa Anita, trainer Doug O’Neill starts a promising 2-year-old in race 3. Fore Left, a colt by Twirling Candy, outworked two others from the gate Monday in 35.40 and should be tough to beat in the 4 1/2-furlong race. Fore Left outworked Zero Down, the program favorite Friday in race 3 for statebred 2-year-olds.
