Badhabit Jess needs to bring best
Badhabit Jess, seventh in the $3 million All American Futurity at Ruidoso Downs in 2018, will have his Los Alamitos debut in an allowance race at 330 yards on Saturday.
Badhabit Jess is part of a field of five and must run a top race in his first start since February to beat the stakes-placed filly All Prettied Up and CM Whatta About Me, who won an allowance race at 330 yards on April 26.
Badhabit Jess, trained by Yanet Rodriguez, is winless in 10 starts since a victory in a division of the Hobbs American Futurity trials at Zia Park in New Mexico in September 2018. Badhabit Jess was later fifth as the 2-1 second choice in the $344,250 final.
In the All American, Badhabit Jess finished two lengths behind Apocalyptical Jess.
A 4-year-old gelding by Mr Jess Perry, Badhabit Jess was second in four races in an eight-race campaign in 2019. He was beaten a nose in the Lovington Stakes at Zia Park last December, but finished ninth of 10 in a top-class field in the $350,000 Championship at Sunland Park later that month.
In his lone start this year, Badhabit Jess was fifth as the even-money favorite in an allowance race at 400 yards on Feb. 23 at Sunland Park.
Eduardo Nicasio will ride Badhabit Jess on Friday for owner Carlos Avalos. Badhabit Jess breaks from post 4, one gate to the inside of CM Whatta About Me, a 4-year-old gelding trained by Luke Lindsey.
Stel Chancey, fourth in an allowance race at 350 yards on May 10, and Vindicated, winner of a $12,500 claiming race for nonwinners of two at 330 yards on May 17, are the other runners.
CM Whatta About Me ended a four-race losing streak with a neck win in an allowance race for nonwinners of two on April 26. Saturday’s race is for nonwinners of three.
All Prettied Up was third in the La Pacifica Handicap for 3-year-old fillies at 350 yards on May 9 in her stakes debut. Trained by Angela Aquino, All Prettied Up won a 330-yard allowance race earlier this spring, despite stumbling at the start. Oscar Andrade Jr. was aboard for that win and has the mount Saturday.
The allowance race is the last of nine races on a program that begins at 6 p.m. Pacific. Wagering is available through DRFBets.com.
