HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. – The Stronach Group announced Friday that Bill Badgett, former general manager of Gulfstream Park, will rejoin the company, effective immediately, as executive director of Florida racing operations. Badgett currently serves as executive director of the Florida Horsemen’s Benevolent and Protective Association.
“We are thrilled that Bill will be returning to lead our 1/ST Racing operations in Florida,” said Craig Fravel, chief executive officer of 1st Racing. “Florida is a key priority for our company, and Bill’s daily presence and expertise will be instrumental as we grow our racing program with the highest of integrity and modern thinking.”
Badgett’s responsibilities will include building on and establishing critical reforms in Florida and developing relationships with horsemen and key industry stakeholders in the state.
“I am excited to be returning to the company and looking forward to building on the success of the 1/ST Racing program here in Florida,” Badgett said. “Together with Mike Lakow (vice President of racing operations at Gulfstream Park), our focus will be on setting a new competitive standard for Florida racing that is in lock step with 1/ST’s vision to achieve the highest level of horse and rider care and safety.”
