Bad Read Sanchez to miss Del Mar Futurity
DEL MAR, Calif. – Bad Read Sanchez, third in the Grade 2 Best Pal Stakes on Aug. 3, will miss the $300,000 Del Mar Futurity on Sept. 3 because of a recent temperature, trainer Doug O’Neill said.
Bad Read Sanchez will be pointed for the $300,000 FrontRunner Stakes over 1 1/16 miles at Santa Anita on Sept. 27.
Sunset Glow, who won the Grade 2 Sorrento Stakes for 2-year-old fillies on Aug. 6, worked five furlongs in 59.40 seconds Wednesday. Trained by Wesley Ward, she would be a leading candidate for the $300,000 Del Mar Debutante over seven furlongs Aug. 30 but could start against males in the Del Mar Futurity.
Ward has Sunset Glow with trainer Blake Heap this summer. Heap said Wednesday that the Del Mar Futurity would be an option for Sunset Glow if she needs a few more days between races.
