Back to Ohio continued to reign as one of the top distaffers in Ohio with a victory in Thursday’s $75,000 Greg Veit Scarlet and Gray Stakes for statebred fillies and mares at Thistledown. Favored Back to Ohio ($3), with Jarrett Loveberry in the irons for Larry Rivelli, was unhurried early in the six-furlong race. Turning for home, the stalking Candlelight Hours - also a multiple stakes winner in the state - inherited the lead through a half that had gone in 45.46 seconds. Back to Ohio found a seam between horses in the stretch and was up inside of Candlelight Hours for a half-length win. The time was 1:11.04. Candlelight Hours was second by four lengths over Tivis. Back to Ohio has won seven of eight starts, with her only blip a runner-up effort in a stakes try on turf. The filly’s stakes wins last year were highlighted by a victory in the John Galbreath Memorial on last fall’s Best of Ohio fall showcase program.  :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering?
