Bac in Front prohibitive favorite in Pacific Quarter Horse Racing Association Breeders' Derby
Bac in Front is expected to be such a heavy favorite in Friday’s $135,000 Pacific Coast Quarter Horse Racing Association Breeders’ Derby at Los Alamitos that the track is not offering show wagering in the 400-yard race.
This year, Bac in Front won the La Primera Del Ano Derby for fillies in April and was second in the Governor’s Cup Derby in July. She was a troubled second in a division of the Breeders’ Derby trials on Sept. 12.
Trained by Jaime Gomez, Bac in Front will be ridden by Carlos Huerta and has drawn the outside in a field of nine. Bac in Front is one of four fillies in a field which includes Old Girl, winner of the 2014 Kindergarten Futurity.
The PCQHRA series continues on Saturday with the $385,000 Futurity at 350 yards. Docs Best Card, second in the Kindergarten and Ed Burke Million futurities, can win his first stakes against Ima Fearless Hero, who has won three of five starts, including a sharp trial race Sept. 13.
Docs Best Card is owned and trained by Gomez. Ima Fearless Hero is trained by Jose Flores, who also trains the 3-year-old Old Girl.
