B. Thoughtful good fit for U R All That I Am

Brad Free|Apr 22, 2010

INGLEWOOD, Calif. - Five California-bred filly-mare sprinters run for a $150,000 purse Saturday in the B. Thoughtful Stakes on Gold Rush Day at Hollywood Park.

Race 3 on the 10-race card, the B. Thoughtful is made to order for U R All That I Am, whose most recent win came under identical circumstances - 7 1/2 furlongs on the Hollywood Park main track in a small field of California-bred fillies and mares.

U R All That I Am scored an easy win Nov. 15 in the $70,000 Cat's Cradle Handicap at Hollywood. That race and four good efforts since make her the deserving favorite Saturday against unlucky Lady Alex; front-runner Big N Sassy; comebacker Witchy Meeting; and Ruffled Feathers, a two-turn turf filly in a main-track sprint.

Jerry Hollendorfer trains U R All That I Am, winless in four starts since the Cat's Cradle. However, she ran well in all four, finishing second in an overnight stakes, a troubled seventh in a $200,000 stakes, third in an open allowance, and second last time in a $100,000 stakes March 20.

The filly who beat U R All That I Am by a head in the $100,000 stakes, Unzip Me, returned April 11 to win a Grade 3 sprint.

The fact is that the statebred filly-mare sprint ranks are thin. Only five of the 15 B. Thoughtful nominees entered. Joel Rosario rides U R All That I Am, a Tommy Town-owned and -bred daughter of Valid Wager with six wins and earnings of $180,188 from 13 starts.

Big N Sassy, a Northern California-based pace-presser, is likely to set the pace under Martin Pedroza. But 7 1/2 furlongs could be a stretch for Big N Sassy, a 3-for-6 filly who has never raced beyond six furlongs or outside Golden Gate Fields.

Lady Alex defeated a total of two horses in her two most recent starts, but neither finish position (fourth, sixth) is indicative of her ability. She broke in the air and was eliminated at the start last out; two back, she was compromised by a pace duel.

With a clean break under Rafael Bejarano, Lady Alex should get a great trip positioned second behind the pacesetter. John Sadler trains Lady Alex, who is 4 for 12 in her career.

Witchy Meeting returns from a layoff of more than 10 months for trainer Tim Yakteen. Ruffled Feathers would have been a contender in the $150,000 Fran's Valentine on turf, but that Gold Rush race was canceled this year.
